Values-based Education announces a menu of high quality Professional Development Training to support schools looking for Values-based School Improvement through Wellbeing, Leadership, Personal Development, Teaching & Learning and Outcomes. 20170427 111928

 

Each Training session can be tailored to your school’s needs, the time you have available and the intended audience.

 

It could be as short as a ‘twilight’ meeting, a half-day session or a whole day’s INSET.

 

It could also include VbE partnership working with staff during the school day; generating practical activities with parents; coaching the VbE leader or delivering information to governors. 

 

Each training session will be delivered by one of our highly experienced VbE Consultants. Most of the training can be delivered in your school, or a neighbouring school if you are booking a session jointly. Our consultant will liaise closely with you beforehand so that they have the best understanding of what training you would like.

Transforming Your School with Values-based Education

For: Schools wishing to introduce and embed a values-based curriculum and culture to the whole school community.

Program: This Professional Development Training provides the background to VbE, evidence of the immense benefits of introducing VbE and a template for the practical implementation of VbE. It aims to allow staff to reflect on their roles and relationships within schools, re-visit the purpose of education and rapidly establish the environment in which teachers and staff can flourish both personally and academically.

Delivery: This Training is most effective when delivered to a whole school staff and governors. It is tailored to each school's specific needs, and is ideally delivered as a one day conference/INSET day at the school or a venue of the school’s choice.

Values-based School Improvement

For: Schools needing to rapidly improve outcomes for pupils, schools needing a fresh start and/or a change of culture within the whole school community. 

Program: This Professional Development Training revisits the purpose of education, the rational of the curriculum and helps schools to rapidly establish the environment in which teachers and staff can flourish both personally and academically. The OFSTED Framework is explored through ‘values-lenses’ with focus on improvement in all key areas: Effectiveness of Leadership and Management; Quality of Teaching, Learning and Assessment; Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare; outcomes for Children and Other Learners. 
The majority of schools in this position who go on to introduce VbE effectively achieve a "Good" or "Outstanding" OFSTED rating within two years.

Delivery: This Training is tailored to each school's specific needs, and can be delivered either as a one day conference, twilight sessions, or through consultancy at the school. 
Details: Schools which create an authentic values-based culture see a rapid and positive impact on behaviour, relationships, the learning environment, personal wellbeing, attitudes to learning and learning resilience which lead to improvements in all areas throughout the whole school. VbE improves student and teacher wellbeing, academic diligence, pedagogy–focused teaching, student-teacher relationships and parental and family participation.

Diminishing the Difference – Every Child an Achiever

For: Schools seeking to close attainment gaps and enable all pupils to achieve as highly as possible

Program: VbE aims to provide a learning environment whereby all pupils, regardless of their backgrounds, become self-motivated and resilient learners. Schools that engage with VbE experience a narrowing or elimination of the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and their peers. This course looks at relevant research and demonstrates how to implement a culture of high achievement for all pupils.

The Values-based Curriculum

For: Schools looking to develop their curriculum and culture; schools who may be looking to change their curriculum and/or improve how it is delivered.

Program: Schools are invited to re-visit and evaluate their formal, informal and hidden curriculum and see how, by underpinning the curriculum and culture with VbE, learning and achievement, motivation and behaviour, enjoyment and interest are all improved. This Professional Development Training details exactly how to embed a values-philosophy and shares many examples of outstanding values-based practice. When a curriculum is values-based, there is significant positive impact for pupils and teachers.

The VbE Teacher

For: Teachers in schools looking to introduce a values-based approach to their classroom or to develop and embed a values-based curriculum and culture within their role. 

Program: As well as delivering a template for a successful values-based classroom, this course reinforces the importance of establishing positive and authentically deep relationships between pupils and their teachers. When such relationships are formed in the classroom, learning for all is heightened. Children feel safe, secure and supported in their learning and teachers learn much more about how and what their pupils are learning. This Professional Development Training explores how teachers can introduce Emotion Coaching to their values-based approach and make learning for their pupils even more effective. It also looks at the Professional Standards for Teachers and matches each one to a further values-based approach; this can form the basis for teachers achieving the prestigious IVET (Individual) Teacher Quality Mark.

The VbE Leader

For: Leaders of schools looking to introduce, develop or deeply embed Values-based Education in their school/schools. 

Program: This Professional Development Training is specifically for headteachers and members of school leadership teams who wish to lead a values-based school and effectively embed a values-based culture which engages all members of the school community and drives the rapid improvement in standards of learning and behaviour. The VbE template is explored in detail and examples of outstanding values-based leadership practice is shared.

A professional coaching session for the VbE leader of the school is included in this Training.

Delivery: This Training is delivered to VbE leaders from different schools who attend this one day course in a VbE host school. Schools are welcome to volunteer to be a host school for this Training.

Values-based Induction for Staff New to VbE Schools

For: Staff who are new to an established VbE School 

Program: This Professional Development Training ensures that staff joining schools with an embedded VbE culture experience a day of high quality training whereby they gain a deep understanding of the background of VbE, the explicit elements of a VbE school and how they can rapidly settle in and contribute to the school.

Delivery: This Training is delivered to staff from different schools who attend this one day course in a VbE host school. Schools are welcome to volunteer to be a host school for this Training. A VbE Consultant will deliver the training. Many host schools also contribute by showcasing their school during the day.

Introducing VbE to Parents

For: Schools looking for parental engagement and support with VbE

Program: This Professional Development Training supports schools to introduce the concept of a values-based ethos and curriculum to the wider school community and to reveal the impact in can have on their children.

Delivery: This Training can be delivered in three ways: as a training session for key members of staff to prepare to deliver a VbE Parents Information Meeting themselves; a VbE Parents' Information Meeting delivered by a VbE Consultant; a day/morning or afternoon VbE in-school session(s) with lessons and games for parents and their children to let them experience the impact of VbE in the classroom.

The Values-based School for Governors/Trustees 

For: School Governors or Academy/MAT Trustees

Program: It is essential that school governors/trustees understand how the strategic implementation of VbE relates to pupil outcomes. This course delivers an understanding of VbE, what it looks like in schools and the impact it can have on staff performance and pupils’ outcomes. Crucially, governors will come away with effective questions to ask and reflect upon as they continue to work strategically with the school. 

Delivery: This Professional Development Training is usually delivered at a Governors’/Trustees’ Training session at the school or at Local Network Meetings. It can be delivered over a whole day if required whereby the understanding and engagement of attendees will be taken to a deeper level.

Values-based Behaviour Management for Support Staff and Lunchtime Staff 

For: Support staff and/or lunchtime staff who lead playtimes and/or lunchtimes.

Program: This Professional Development Training aims to encourage support staff and lunchtime staff become values leaders in their own roles. They play a crucial part in the lives of the children who they work with and their relationship with every child in their care is extremely important for helping the child to feel safe, secure and to be able to manage their own behaviour. This course gives clear guidance as to how a values-based approach in the playground can enhance attitudes to learning and behaviour and promote excellent behaviour and engagement at these social times of the day. This course explores how staff can use Emotion Coaching techniques in their roles to support pupils with a values-based approach. 

Delivery: This Training is tailored to each school's specific needs, and can be delivered in 2 or 3 hour sessions (at the school) depending on time available.
